I was forced to attend CND marches in the eighties and have bitter feelings about my parents subsequently, because in the long run NATO has been a positive entity against socialist expansionism

looking back, I am not at all sure that nuclear disarmament would have been a good idea, and the soviets were bloody dangerous, but the main reason the soviet union collapsed was because it couldn't cope with their domestic economic problems.
