# she's a vol-e-von
ooh ooh ooh - she's full of cheese, down to her knees oooh ooooh oooh
TJ : how can i see in the dark? (without the aid of a flashlight/the sun/moon on a stick/etc)
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:29, archived)
# camera with built in
nightvision?

is this a riddle?
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:30, archived)
# can't i get infa red bulbs or something?
i don't have an night vision camera
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:32, archived)
# Echo location?
I'm not helping am i?
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:33, archived)
# no :)
but its the thought that counts :D
how do night vision cameras work?
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:34, archived)
# Infrared bulbs would just be heat sources, they wouldn't help.
You'd need an infrared camera. Or lots of carrots.
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:38, archived)
# when i point my remote control at my cameraphone...
i can see the light... would that work? (its also how i test to see if my remote batteries are dead (i don't use the remotes so none of them have batteries in now as i can reach my hifi stand from here!)
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:40, archived)
# I'd guess that that's the remote control emitting some light, rather than the camera picking up infrared.
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:42, archived)
# i thought remotes where IR? (infa red)
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:51, archived)
# I think so.
But if your camera can see it, maybe it's not purely IR it's emitting
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:52, archived)
# do you have a camera phone?
point your remote control at it and press da buttonz!
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:53, archived)
# Cor.
That's dead weird.
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:56, archived)
# see what i mean?
:D
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:05, archived)
# No.
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:06, archived)
# are you wearing the "special" pyjammas?
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:07, archived)
# No, I'm using a regular phone camera which wont pick up Infra Red light, as I assume is the same for most cameras.
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:09, archived)
# does your camera do video?
bit strange...
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:12, archived)
# My samsung camera phone sees the remote light as a kind of purplish light.
But if I put the remote up near my eye and block out the ambient light with my hand, I see nothing.
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:13, archived)
# Yeah.
I guess the camera must have some IR sensitivity.
I don't think it'd work for night vision though.
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:08, archived)
# should i buy an IR torch to find out?
(or make one myself)?
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:13, archived)
# I vote: use microwaves instead of IR radiation.
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:16, archived)
# wow if i open the door on my microwave and take a picture
i can see the inside of my microwave! amazing!
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:19, archived)
# HURRR. That's because the microwave isn't on.
Even if it was, you'd see nothing.
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:20, archived)
# wait wait
...its on fire... now what?
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:21, archived)
# OH GOD. OH LORD. OH GOOD GRACES.
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:23, archived)
# Go for it.
Or take some pictures of hot things that aren't glowing, like an electric hob.
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:17, archived)
# eh?
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:19, archived)
# If it's really picking up IR,
in theory it should see the difference between a cold hob and a hot hob.
Probably won't, but worth a shot.
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:25, archived)
# i'll have a look when i cook my bacon tomorrow :)
mmmm bacon
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:28, archived)
# My cameras do.
Grill elements, anyway, as we have gas hobs here.

There's many a tutorial on the web about rejigging digital cameras to properly pick up IR. They can be a bit complicated though.
It usually involves replacing the IR filter with a piece of exposed film (blocks out visible light but not IR).
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:54, archived)
# Wow, works with my phone too!
Intriguing.
The light emitted by the remote looks light blue, if that helps?
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:15, archived)
# carrots.
lots of carrots.
(, Sat 6 Sep 2008, 23:37, archived)

# We're not crazy, you can let us out now!
I can't.
Why not?
Because the King of the Potato People won't let me. I begged him. I got down on my knees and wept. He wants to keep you here. Keep you here for ten years.
(, Sun 7 Sep 2008, 0:19, archived)
