I've noticed this..

every time I edit it the gif encoding creates more bits...
Can't seem to fathom it. :S

That's because there are tiny bits of almost-transparent parts you forgot to erase.

Each time you save it as a gif it becomes more opaque.
Stick a black background underneath in a new layer and you may be able to see them all.
