and this makes the situation play into their hands
because the more they get to play the part of a 'victim' in this, through the threatening
behavour, the more sympathy they will generate once Griffin and co. start spouting general
principles of law which we all abide by, and how it's being broken in this instance by what is
happening. They may well end up with more people sympathetitc to their 'cause' through this once the dust settles a bit.

YES
people who feel victimised will frequently try to find someone 'worse' than them, to feel better as a individual or group. The 'I'm OK you're not OK' position; hence the BNP targeting 'deprived' areas where more people are desperate to find someone to blame.
