Ah yes, indeed.
Did you catch Survivors last night, not too shabby, methinks.

I was pleasantly suprised by that
lots of glaring oversights and suchlike, but quite entertaining :)

Season 7 of 24, without flippin advert breaks every 10 mins like Sky does
David Dimbleby being the new Chair of 'I'm Sorry I Haven't Clue'
Sean Pertwee being the new Doctor Who
That's what I expect. Mind you, that's not what is likely to happen...

Course it has.
As screeners...
Reasonable quality screeners too
Also: iPlayer is NOT RealPlayer
*blows a raspberry*

That's not what I said.
It uses the flash plug-in as a wrapper to leverage Real Media streams.
and I should bloody know, I was on the initial development team at BBCW.
*double raspberry trifles!*

I'm intrigued
That says it's not using it, and is using Flash purely with a VP6 (or H264) codec.
I know for local stuff it's still mostly RealPlayer, but is streaming iPlayer stuff really RealPlayer*
*I'm not questioning your knowledge, I'm just trying to clarify

My apologies..
Not trying to be arsey at all, it really is the most pig-awful lash-up in the history of anything.
The Beeb couldn't dump all their legacy stream-creation workflow, so they mangled the whole lot together into this abomination.
It was all born out of the abortive Real-based BBC.com (note the .com, hence commerical) News Service, that one had to pay for.
It's a disgrace, much as Joe S already pointed out.
That's why you get this awful degrade from H 264 codec, due it being delivered by one system, deployed to the browser via another.
And don't even get me started on the Mac support.

Listen live Radio
"Depending on your station, as detailed in this guide, you may be able to listen to a Real or Windows Media Audio live stream. Real may adjust the bit-rate depending on your connection, but we offer live streams at 64kbps."
A lot of the local live streaming stuff needs Realplayrer
