My inner pedant though is quick to point out that a bass guitar is still technically a guitar...
Joe Satriani - technically astonishing, but his playing seems to lack feel or soul, if you know what I mean. I'd rather listen to Stevie Ray Vaughn or Buddy Guy, personally.

technical ability amounts to shit all in my eyes - I went to see Paul Gilbert do a guitar workshop a couple of years ago and he's technically amazing, but there's a bit of soul there too which was good. Nice guy too.
