Like so many others. Leslie Neilson, for example. They go for the easy, lowest-common-denominator laughs now by pulling faces or acting manic and appearing in 'Look, there's a joke at this point, please laugh' films.

True, Leslie Neilson was great
as he was always taken as a serious actor in the early years of his career and only Police Squad and Airplane brought out the satire/parody that was inherent in serious acting and so Neilson was a perfect foil for that kind of spoof - unfortunately when he continued with the parody taking it too far he became most famous for parodies and not the serious acting that made him famous thereby he became old hat very quickly and unlikely as an option for any serious film parts.
