No, no, no.I've not seen what sounds like the original, but The Descent is one of the biggest wastes of 2 hours of my life. Predictable, clunky, full of jilted dialogue, and about as scary as cardboard tube.

By the time I got to the end,I couldn't give a shit about any of the hollow idiot characters, or any semblance of plot, so it's impact was diminished. Also, it seemed to be an attempt at pseudo-intellectual psycho-nonsense, and was completely at odds to the drivel thrown around in the rest of the film. it was shit.
