0845 is not usually free
but it might be. if it's not free, the easiest thing to do would be to go on the nhs direct website and see if you can get a list of local nhs dentists. that way, you only have to call local rate.

that's a bugger
try yell.com, they'll give you a list of all dentists in your area, plus their numbers. some dentists even have a website, which will be linked, which means you should be able to find out if they accept nhs patients.
