# What kind of moozic?

# just nice old skoolish hip hop
relaxing stuff
(, Fri 1 May 2009, 16:28, archived)
# Out of luck then
New old folk: Johnny Flynn or Joker's Daughter
(, Fri 1 May 2009, 16:31, archived)
# Eric B and Rakim is a good port of call
if you want old skool and happy making look out Pete Rock and CL Smooth (INI is a good Pete Rock collabo with a more reggae feel to it) or DJ Krush or Leaders of the Nu Skool.... if you're looking for something more instrumental Entroducing by DJ Shadow is a record I would recommend to anyone
(, Fri 1 May 2009, 16:33, archived)
# entroducing is top.
have you ever come across solillaquists of sound? www.myspace.com/solilla really cool, groovy sort of hip hop. they've recently done some cool stuff with chalie 2na

# I haven't heard of them
I'll check them out. Thanks.

While we're on doing this I think you will like Winter In America by Gil Scott Herron. You might not, but it's worth a good listen if you can get your hands on it.

# Rakim (anything), Dr. Octagon (Ecologist)
KRS One...

erm - what sort of think you looking for?
(, Fri 1 May 2009, 16:29, archived)
# krs one is brilliant
i've also recently discovered common and aesop rock. i think i've heard some of rakim, i'll check him out, cheers.

i've mostly been on a format, J5 bender of late
(, Fri 1 May 2009, 16:31, archived)
# if you like J5
get anything by Blackalicious or on Quannum Records (previously Soulsides). They did a sort of manifesto record called Quannum Spectrum in... 1999? it's worth looking out. Also - harder to find but possibly worth it is things on Major Force (West) ... MoWax released a collection which is very good.

If you like Aesop rock check out Mike Ladd (Welcome to the After Future) and Sage Francis ... also there's a guy called Apathy who has some quite good stuff but it's proper internet hip hop
(, Fri 1 May 2009, 16:37, archived)
# i've got everything sage and the anticon label have released. :)
i'm a huge sage fan, though the last album not so much. My favourite off of anticon is Alias, really dubby heavy ugly stuff. also really getting into Dose One of late, you heard much of him?
(, Fri 1 May 2009, 16:40, archived)
# yeah - big fan
I really like the Why? and... arg - what were they called - on Ninja Tune... cLOUDED they were pretty fucked up.

You should look out some TTC and Assassin for that French feel (if you haven't seen it La Haine is a brilliant introduction to French Hip Hop). Teki Latex has a good solo album, but it's a little more hipster disco ... like Ed Banger stuff or Chromeo
(, Fri 1 May 2009, 16:47, archived)
# ive got all this bookmarked to have a listen to when i get back from work.
cheers.

I used to be a fan of the ed banger stuff but then it all got a bit too twee for me. i'll give the other stuff a go though. cheers

# You need this:
Gulag Orkestar by Beirut.

It's wonderful.

it's not hip-hop, it's just wonderful.
