a lot of the festivities were cancelled (Yay no more levensliedbagger audible in my livingroom!) and about 200 people were arrested, which is about the same amount as any normal koninginnedag, allegedly ;)

I suppose it depends on whether you see the purpose of punishment as rehabilitation, protection of the public or retribution.

It's a little more suspect to want someone to languish in jail for the rest of their life at great expense rather than go quietly.
I'm not talking about capital punishment, more cases like this and when criminals commit suicide before facing justice.
