# hello you!
Have things calmed down a bit since that mullarky yesterday?
(, Fri 1 May 2009, 17:09, archived)
# Yeah, almost instantly
a lot of the festivities were cancelled (Yay no more levensliedbagger audible in my livingroom!) and about 200 people were arrested, which is about the same amount as any normal koninginnedag, allegedly ;)

/edit: oooh, seven dead now

# Well, at least there was a bit of an upside.
The guy died in hospital, didn't he?
(, Fri 1 May 2009, 17:17, archived)
# Yes, that was a bit of a pity.
I'd like to have heard his side of the story. And see him punished.
(, Fri 1 May 2009, 17:18, archived)
# The latter, certainly.

# I always wonder whether it's better in this kind of case for the bloke to die rather than needing the expense of a trial and imprisonment.
I suppose it depends on whether you see the purpose of punishment as rehabilitation, protection of the public or retribution.
Judging from his actions, his side of the story might not have been that coherent

# Sir, you make a bloody good point.
I just get this 'red mist of revenge' for crap like this.

# Understandable.
There's probably no right answer, I just find it interesting
(, Fri 1 May 2009, 17:27, archived)
# This is almost always the dilemma
I think some families would've really liked to get some answers.

# Wanting answers is quite understandable, but I have no idea how often a criminal will give those reasons to the victim/families afterwards.
It's a little more suspect to want someone to languish in jail for the rest of their life at great expense rather than go quietly.
I'm not talking about capital punishment, more cases like this and when criminals commit suicide before facing justice.
