I far as I remember it was £1
60p for the paper and 40p for the vendor. They they put the price up and not the vendor's commission so basically they were selling less for a lower percentage.

perhaps a supermarket
could do a range offering fruit and veg, picked by only the finest 'British workers' and see how little they sell because the wage needed to draw them would significantly increase the price.
Fruit pickers have always been migrant workers, Londoners would travel to East Anglia, just now they come from farther afield (pun intended)
