From what I have read about Zoot Suits,
The chain was not actually for a watch - it was just there to be cool.
The suits were made with extra cloth (when cloth was being rationed because of the war) just to piss off the regular population.

but I don't know what the term would be in Hep. Cab wrote/collected the Hepster's Dictionary:
