# can I make a suggestion for hair using photoshop?
(, Tue 16 Jun 2009, 0:19, archived)
# you're getting the suggestion anyway.

# plarp the hair as one solid colour, a medium tone of your hair or whoever's hair
and just do a basic shape, get it about right but don't worry too much.

then get the dodge and burn tool and take turns using different intensities and sizes with the dodge and burn tool, this gives you decent shadows and light patches, don't worry about crossing lines and stuff they'll usually come out ok. Thhen you can create a path to make your hair a more normal shape and cut it up trim it in places, then take a really thin brush and throw in a couple of occasional little stands coming out.

someone did this original image and I just threw together the hair whilst explaining the same technique in about 5 minutes

# it's not brilliant but it has advantages
and it's relatively quick

# if none of that makes any sense, tell me
and I'll put something together that will make more sense

# I'm going to make a point of using the word "plarp" from now on
just as soon as I work out exactly what I want it to mean
(, Tue 16 Jun 2009, 0:30, archived)
# I consider plarp to be a word used for casually spreading something
"what do you want on your toast"
"oh just plarp some Jalapeno Houmus on it"
