It doesn't sound all that bad. You can hear a slight rattle as the revs rise, but I wouldn't be overly concerned.
That's sometimes the problem with custom exhausts, though. Welding can sometimes be suspect as you said above.
I have a HKS superdragger on my Skyline. Noisy, sometimes too noisy, but has never let me down.

It's only at 1400rpm, it's annoying when the engine is cold because that's the revs it sits at, other than that it's normally at around 1500-2000rpm.
It sounds great when it's bouncing off the limiter.

I poked a bunch of small stones in and glued them there with exhaust putty. Funny smell while the stuff went off, but after that it was all good.
