I am a bit of a bunny-loving tree hugger at heart, and would really love not to have to fly on my hols (chiefly to avoid BMI baby but that's another rant).
From Manchester to Bordeaux costs more than double to go via train and Eurostar than it does to fly. With the majority of that extra being the connections from Manchester to the Eurostar.
I'm not fussed about the extra time it would take - personally the idea of a nice journey through the French countryside I find appealing, but at least make it vaguely comparable to flying? Please?

My return plane ticket from Gatwick to Bordeaux in 2007 was cheaper than the train ticket from Nottingham to Gatwick

To get to other places it is cheaper and quicker for me to drive there, even getting the tickets early it is still cheaper for me to drive. If they would just stop arsing about and upgrade the network, then it would be a lot better and a bit cheaper
