# Most of the people who have MRSA aquire it before they even go into hospital.
The majority of people in Nursing Homes are MRSA positive.
Do you even know WHY we get concerned about MRSA?

# No
But the last time I checked up it was due to unclean equipment.

# Last time you checked? Was that in The Daily Fail or in your big ladybird book of hospital medicine?
MRSA stands for 'Methicillin resistant staphlococcus aureus'. Staphlococcus aureus is an extremely common skin organism and is present on everybody.
An unfortunate but inevitable consequence of using antibiotics to treat infections is that bugs such as s.aureus develop resistence. This occurs in the community just as easily as in hospital.
You can imagine how easy it is to spread a resistant strain once it develops, for example by shaking hands with someone.
The NHS does not use unclean equipment. Nearly all surgical equipment is single-use only. There are alcohol gel dispensers on every ward and often at the end of every bed. Fortunately we are able to control the spread of resistant bacteria because each hospital has its own antibiotic policy as well as NICE guidelines which suggest avoiding particular drugs which are becoming less effective. Hence the MRSA problem is worse in America.
