# Yes I work for a small company and they do NOT pay for sickness
Except you will get ssp after day 5 of extended sickness (by law). You can go to a GP appointment if you use holiday entitlement but if it's unexpected hospital/GP visit... then tough! Unpaid leave.
On the other hand:
Bigger companies have lots of sickness policies you can exploit and many people get full or slightly reduced pay.

What I've realised after working for the small company is: Yes, it penalizes the sick and yes, it stops skivers from having a hangover recovery day. More people at work makes life less stressfull.

# and it'll ensure pandemic flu
will spread like wildfire - we live in a rich country but you'd think it was on the brink of collapse if anyone threw a sicky -policy decided by daily bloody mail readers again!

# Yes.
I pay full pay to my staff when sick. Theoretically this is for the first 10 days, but in reality it is forever unless they are known to be taking the piss.
