Steel strings are fitted to suitable acoustic guitars.It might need a redesign to strengthen it, possibly using struts. I've no idea what is inside it though.

Yeah, struts might be all that is needed. Or a steel top on a wood body.Either way it would keep the hollowbody to make the feedback dead simple to start.
