# This is a problem I am going to have with this compo.
In order to understand these images I need to know what all the squiggly line symbol thingies mean. And I don't. And I have no need to know what they mean other than for this compo.

[challenge entry] sheesh
Not even the first one?

Damn. OK, have a CDI* then:

* Crudely Drawn Integral.

Now that I do understand. :D

# Arts student?
Very well. Don't come running to me next time you need to find the Fourier Integral solution to a Differential Equation, then.

# translation in words
1): techno is the same as music to the power of e

one assumes he means ecstasy, but it's dimly possible he's referring to e, the transcendental number used as the base of the natural logarithsm. it's even possible he's making a pun, or a play on words.

2): dub is the same as the square root of reggae.

i don't understand that one. rephrased, it tells you that reggae is the same as dub times itself. that also makes no sense to me.

3): gaga is the sum from toyah (wilcox, one assumes) to siouxsie (of banshee fame) of the number of mansons that fit in a goldfrapp. this sum is also occasionally called an integral; but it should be noted that unless the goldfrapp upon manson includes a differential measure, as written, this is not an integral.

# cool...this really sums up my feelings on math right now.

# in principle maths is easy
forget it's got the blindest bit to do with numbers and treat it more or less as a visual language made from lego blocks. numbers have very little place in maths -- it's no surprise that most universities will likely offer it both as an arts and a science degree, most likely with no difference in the syllabus whatsoever.

not that this should stop you hating it and posting scenes from the peanuts apocalypse. :)

# Cool, thanks for the breakdown. Here's mine:
1, Implying techno is good.
2, Implying dub and reggae is good.
3, Don't care.

# If reggae is greater than one
he's implying that dub is less than reggae. but if reggae is less than one he's implying that dub is *greater* than reggae. or if he's implying they're equally good then he's saying that dub and reggae are one and the same.

the subtleties of maths will never cease.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 23:05, archived)
# Thank you kind sir.
I cannot possibly deny it's all very clever this mathematical punnery but neither can I deny I am not very clever or mathematically minded.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 23:08, archived)
# you are more than welcome
maths is something you do if you find it easy and ignore if you don't, much like a foreign language, reading, or cunnilingus.

# cunni-what?

# The dub one might be better as;
√(reggaereggae)

Repeated reggae loops, reverbed and echoed.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 23:09, archived)
# or perhaps...
dub=sqrt(reggae) implying that dub is the POSITIVE root of reggae.

the negative root would be, of course, whatever lead to ub40.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 23:13, archived)
# I can't argue with that logic.
UB40 < (a dry turd found in your sock drawer)
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 23:15, archived)
# UB40=SATAN'S MUSIC
He hates it too of course. Everyone does. That's kind of the point.

Also, I need to sleep. More LIES will follow when I hear the call of the pipes wailing empty and eerie through the darkened frozen fields and the chill winds screech through the rattling windows and the mutters and the murmurs and the slurps creep up the wall.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 23:19, archived)
# YAY, MORE THE LIES!
I'll make replies pics.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 23:23, archived)
# :)
It may be a while, depending what time I get in the next week or two, but more will come.

Laters.

# too literal!
Dub is the Root of Reggae - that's all I meant. Mon.

As for the 3rd one ... well it makes more sense to me than Lady Gaga's "music". The terms are just some of the influences that went in. I think she's borrowed a lot of Goldfrapp and is reacting inversely to Marilyn Manson, while integrating (geddit?) those influences from pop history.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 23:10, archived)
# hahahaha
being literal minded is part of my job description :) and an unfortunately large part of my sense of humour
