Me too, I just heard the Haiti charity single...
Now if that represents just one small fraction of the suffering in the region then I will gladly make a donation to the DEC.

Is it every bit as terrible as you would think?
My standpoint - I will start off with a donation of £100 and deduct a pound for every time I hear that song - or part thereof - over the next fortnight.
I wager that Haiti will end up owing me money.

So, pretty much adopting the USA's general policy toward overseas aid?

There's the usual dreadful gravelly howling that Cowell seems to delight in -
people who can just about reach a note but can't for the love of God sustain it. I don't know who they are - many are accomplished performers - but they're completely unsuited to this track. I couldn't stand more than a few seconds though, so it may pick up further in... or it may not... And yes, I could stomach 'Perfect Day', but not this. Or that last one he presided over, come to think of it.

Actually, can someone kick off a facebook campaign?
Get Michael Stipe to re-release his version, all money to DEC?

Hell yes!
I think the adopted position is start off with a £50 stake, subtract £1 every time I hear the new version, and add £5 every time I hear REM's version by way of incentive.
If there's any taste in the world I'll wind up making a decent donation to Haiti, but I suspect it'll wind up around a tenner :(
