I have a chunk of video loaded into Vegas but i want to reverse it, so it plays backwards.
Is there a quick and easy way of doing this?

but have you found the way to compress time by dragging the end of a clip so that it will play faster or slower?
If you do that try dragging it back past the start of the clip and see if that works.
It probably won't but i've not tried it yet. If you find out let me know though.

found this in the forums, i think that's what you were saying
It can be quite simple:
Place the clip on the timeline
right click on the event and add a velocity envelope
drag the line (envelope) to the bottom
the clip should play in reverse.
If you need backwards audio, you might try rendering just the piece you need to a new track, open that file in windows sound recorder and reverse it. Pop it in where the original audio was.
Addendum: (moments later)
For nice clean-looking reverse (or other speeds), right click on the event and select Properties> "Resample"...
