Indeed, it's just as likely that the universre follows a more ocillitory route.
Big bang could be followed by a big crunch leadinging to another big bang.
Or there could be more than one "universe" stemming from multiple big bangs.
And by the time the sun goes nova we could well be populating the stars.

I think our timeline is doomed regardless
on account of these assumptions:
Getting to the edge of our universe
Getting to another one
Dealing with that universes physics.
