This is a normal post Piece of advice:
I was given a similar letter twelve months ago stating that a third of the workforce would be cut. Even though I was not expecting to be in the firing line, I spent that weekend polishing the CV and dropped it on a client's desk the following Monday as I knew they were hiring. This week I've found out that my old employer are now looking to lose *another* third. My current employer is no longer hiring as they got everyone they wanted.

Basically at this point, unless you've got twenty years or more of service and are therefore in line for a good payoff, you should be looking to beat the rush. Prospective employers will undoubtedly know that your current place is looking at layoffs and they know therefore that they can target the most willing and able. Not waiting to be pushed is therefore a massive tick in your favour.

This is a normal post Good advice
There is a huge sense of relief when you are able to jump before you find out whether you were going to be pushed.

I didn't get the joke either though, and on that basis this post is of no help
