Via some kind of internal cavity containing a candle?

This is a normal post If you take away the candle but still have light, is it still a jack-O'lantern?
what if you replace the pumpkin with a plastic pumpkin thing?
does it only become a jack-O'lantern when lit, or is it one before it is lit? what is it in that inbetween state when it is both unlit and lit?

This is a normal post So, when I turn my electric lantern off, its suddenly not a lantern?
And if I want to buy a lantern, I have to tell the store to switch it on so that it becomes a lantern that I can buy?
You saying this isn't a lantern:

Does this hold the same for lamps?
