Nor organisation required beyond picking a menu and vetoing some of the more egregious suggestions for chair covers. For some reason mentioning this to my wife makes her angry.

Don't imagine you'll have any say in the matter whatsoever. She's been planning this in her head for far longer than you realise. Its now just a case of putting that plan into action.
The down side of this is that I ended up doing everything when it came to buying a flat. Still, I know which one I'd rather have done.
