Moved from XP64 to Win8 on my main workstation about 18 months ago
There's a few annoyances - having to futz about in the registry to completely get rid of UAC (the setting in control panel, helpfully labelled "Never Notify", still leaves UAC enabled and requiring elevation under some circumstances). It's also still picky about using UNC paths for some stuff like documents, particularly when you have a non-Windows host at the other end - but that was the case under Win 7 as well.
Once Metro / Charms were kicked off in favour of Classic Shell, it behaves fairly reasonably. It's also bloody stable.
