I did something similar once...
Tried to get the local-paper reporter bloke that lived next door to write an April Fools article along these lines. His article never saw print, but he did have a collection of wonderful quotes from local councillors about how concerned they were about this dangerous dihydrogen oxide stuff in the water supply.
