This is a normal post I did something similar once...
Tried to get the local-paper reporter bloke that lived next door to write an April Fools article along these lines. His article never saw print, but he did have a collection of wonderful quotes from local councillors about how concerned they were about this dangerous dihydrogen oxide stuff in the water supply.

This is a normal post DHMO
Everything is new to someone, but check out dhmo.org for lots of historical excellent DHMO stuff, including a great datasheet for DHMO/Hydric acid!

This is a normal post bit of a cheap shot
yes, by framing their bogus issue as an environmental initiative and throwing a bit of scientific jargon around, they managed to make some hippies look dumb.

I could achieve the opposite political means by going to a Focus On The Family meeting and asking them to help me put an end to publicly-licensed establishments where men can go to masticate together.

This is a normal post pedant rant:
Dihydrogen monoxide is not a proper chemical name. Since oxide specifically refers to an oxygen atom with a 2- charge, the correct IUPAC term would be hydrogen oxide.

Water could never be considered an acid as it generates -OH and H+ ions in equal proportion upon dissociation, it is therefore an amphoteric.

This is a normal post Shouldn't that be
Pedant's rant, with proper capitalisation and apostrophe?
