This is a normal post I'm quite liking the advances in interactive storytelling
must be my age

This is a normal post the thing is
it's never going to get any better than a "choose your own adventure book" which basically mounts down to "how many times can you read a book wrongly, before you get it right".

Truly interactive storytelling is only possible through human improvisation... and that's when it becomes something more than a frustrating "error your way through this narrative"

This is a normal post But it's not just press the wrong button until you find the right one
they're providing interesting variations and alternative outcomes, all with delicious visuals. If it's cheap I'll happily waste a few hours seeing what it offers

This is a normal post so are you going to play it over and over and over again?
because otherwise you are going to be paying for an awful lot of content that your variations and choices will never lead too...

Games are great for interactivity, and occasionally the narrative aint bad...

movies are great for narrative and a wonderful sensory overload of staring at "stories"

I see no need to combine these two.... personally speaking of course.

This is a normal post yes, the aspect of replaying a scenario to achieve different outcomes appeals to me

This is a normal post Yeah the problem is the game starts to grow exponentially as you provide the player more choices with unique outcomes
So the game eventually has to merge outcomes which feels hollow and unsatisfying. Not to mention that it's such a curated experience that no solution you find ever feels novel.
