Russians don't have an "H" sound in their language*
So for Western words they substitute the letter "G", leading to delightful new coinages such as "Gamburger" and, of course, "Gary Potter".
"You are wizard, Gary. You must going to Gogwarts!"
* Strangely they do have the letter X, which translates like the 'ch' in 'loch' or the German 'ich'. But they don't use it for the English 'H'.

it is Garry (Гарри) in Russian, but they change the H of Hogwarts to Х (Хогвартс)
