I don't thnk you have anything to worry about with the
"snooping" as you put it, it's all configurable. Even Ubuntu tracks shit these days so what can you do? You either have a new computer that works, and customise it so it's more secure, or stay in the past, your choice.

Sending back the config is ok.
Sending back your "private" browsing then ads pop up inside the OS trying to sell your wife large black boots and black mamba snake belts - is a tiny bit too much.
