
But the way the Scots parts of the bill were debated yesterday was indeed a piss-take. They were only given a half hour or so for all the devolved bits and someone from the cabinet took up all the time; you could be justified in thinking it was an intentional filibuster.
The gov are naturally trying to say it was labour’s fault for demanding all the divisions, which take up a ludicrous amount of time, but the fact remains that they still voted on only a fraction of the lords’ amendments.
I’m quite a fan of Bercow, but I do think the speaker should be at least able to chastise MPs who are obviously taking the piss by talking out the clock.
