Some of the "adult Lego" kit prices are pretty eyewatering, but you can still get second hand stuff by the kg on eBay for more reasonable prices, and I like the random self builds that the kids come up with. I could maybe knock the price of this one down to £375 for you.

One of my favourite Xmas presents as a kid was a shit-load of Lego train track (not the electtrified stuff) that my Grandad got me one year...
(second-hand, I should add)
I built some epic layouts with that stuff...
