This is a link post Bit before my time
A reminder of how tough things were. It's coming back. Look at the map[ at the start - a triangle of land sticking into Eire. The shit is going to hit the fan.

This is a normal post Isn't it just a form of organised crime really?
I can't see people involved in this giving it up, irrespective of what happens politically.

This is a normal post At least partially true
The republicans really really hate the Brits though. It is *everything* . And ripping off the state can be justified as a revolutionary act.
The point about the Good Friday Agreement which everyone is misisng is that it was the buy in from the Eire government which was important. I mean the PIRA had really started to f*ck them off but it took monsterous work to get it done. Blair deserves a hell of a lot credit and I dont think it would have happened without him and Clinton - although Major who got the process going deserves some too,
Johnson does not understand the fire he is playing with here. He currently seems to calculate that No Deal might fuck us in the ass it will seriously fuck southern Ireland in the ass and the EU will brink. Very very dangerous thinking.

This is a normal post Given the number and intractability of the different parties,
It was an amazing feat to get any deal.

Early on in the programme I'm sure I saw a garda with an quaint looking Enfield rifle.

This is a normal post you should take note of the slr carried by the Brits
a weapon designed for European theatre international conflict. You could shoot through a tree at a mile and kill. Not an ideal police action weapon especially when used in built up areas- although many begged to differ, especially in that part of the world.

This is a normal post I reckon it's a storm in a teacup, and the least of the worries of the brexit clusterfuck
In the 70s and 80s poor republican kids had literally nothing to do, so taking a potshot at the paras was probably an entertaining diversion. These days they're all sat on their arse playing call of duty, they might get angry online, but times have moved on, it won't go back to how it was

This is a normal post You don’t think that a hard border being unilaterally imposed on Eire by their neighbour
might cause some resentment?

That the renewed logistical and economic difficulties of everyday life around that hard border might prove fertile ground for recruiting?

That taking away their freedom of movement and employment will go unanswered?

In a region with a recent history of political violence?

This is a normal post No one is proposing a hard border. No one.
And would you all please stop calling Ireland Eire when you're not speaking Irish. Nobody calls Ireland Eire in English, not even Irish people. Only English people trying to prove how right on they are do, but all they actually prove is that they are so fucking out of touch they don't even know what the place is called by the natives.

This is a normal post No you won't.
We know you want the worst possible outcome for all things Brexit. You're going to be disappointed. Again.

This is a normal post If by “worst possible outcome“ you mean the cancellation of the last three years of clusterfuckery
and everyone responsible for this miserable shitshow being fired into the sun, then you’re right.

That might be your worst possible outcome, it ain’t mine.

This is a normal post That's not what I meant, as you well know.
Do you not realise you've become a conservative? "I want everything to go back to how it was and never ever change!"

This is a normal post Not in the slightest
I want my country to ditch its post-colonial attitude, get over winning the Second World War, and fully commit to being a leading member of the EU, instead of being a truculent neighbour.

We punch well above our size due to our position as the bridge between the US and the EU. We’ll find out to our sorrow, exactly how much of an influence magnifier that position is as soon as we throw it away.

This is a normal post The fuck they aren't
If the UK leaves without a deal, it will cease to have a trade deal with the EU, becoming what is known as a "third country".

The EU imposes a range of checks at its borders for countries like this.

There are customs checks, like those on the Norway-Sweden border, and product standard checks.

This is a normal post *tiptoes around eggshells*
Tell me, do those border checks make the Norwegians pay the sugar tax on the sweets they buy in Sweden? There are an awful lot of candy supermarkets on the Swedish side of the border.
(, Wed 14 Aug 2019, 20:35, , Reply)
This is a normal post And Slab Murphy had a pipe from a diesel tank
on his farm which straddled the border and tank on the other side which was highly lucrative.
But if fucking sweetie shops in Sweden is the best you can come up with in the context of the NI border...
You forgot to mention the ferries btw - booze is taxed up the ying yang in Sweden so people take the ferry to Denmark purely to get paraliytiuc at Danish prices. None of this has fuck all to do with *trade*. It's the same bullshit that people repeat about Swittzerland. If your lorry turns up after the customs closes you're stuck for the night. Cars, even sweetie carrying cars can move.
Just get a fucking grip Frockers, this is not going to end well

Also the SLR was fine but the EM-2 would have been far cooler. Also the lighter round probably wouldn't have gone straight through the average house in Bogside like it was paper.
