I recently read
Stephen Witt's book about music piracy. It suggested that the main audience who always pay for music are technophobic old people, so the majors still push heavily at them. These boring records would suggest that is true.

I don't stream music, I buy it on CD, and as above, I don't have a clue what most of those sound like

Are you a technophobic old person?
I'm 38. Relatively technologically minded. I haven't illegally downloaded a single track nor bought a CD for myself in the past three or so years. I'm an absolute streaming convert. The sheer convenience of having just about any artist/album/song of my choosing instantly play through my headphones/Hi-Fi system at the drop of a hat is something I can't believe I resisted for so long.
Yes, you lose the tactile sensation of holding a physical product in your hand. Yes, you're essentially 'renting' all the music you're listening to. But big fuckity bollocks to all that. Hearing a song over radio/as part of the soundtrack to a TV Series/Movie and being able to instantaneously have access to a 'better than CD' (I know, marketing shite, but still) quality version of that song piping through your preferred listening device without lifting an arsecheek is a revelation. Plus, you're still supporting the artist in the process...a bit.
