In the past people had screensavers, but I think the future is live desktops.
More interesting than a background image, but I'm not sure how to do it.

I think aesthetically something like that would be nice. But the battery drain may not be trivial.

I don't see the point in a live desktop. On a phone, it's just wasting battery life, and once you've got past the initial "wow", what is the point of it? Even image backgrounds just reduce usability by making it harder to pick out application icons.
