Not sure what your terms mean exactly but I think we agree the direction of his force is not constant
and the ladder is juuuust balanced against barely nothing before he gets on it.
To me, normal is 90 degrees to the left of prograde (assuming the blue side is up). Kerbals have ruined my brain.
