I read that the ZAZ model was a joke in foreground or a joke in background but never both at the same time. If a character has exposition heavy dialogue foreground there will be a stupid visual joke going on in the background. It's really clever.

don't get me wrong, I dug it
saw airplane! (released as "flying high" in australia) as a nipper as thought it was the funniest movie I'd ever seen, though with each outing their movies got less funny and more obvious
