This is a normal post Good to know that Carl Sagan
was an ignostic. The world needs more of them.

This is a normal post I'm not sure it does. Not any more.
I appreciate an educator would have needed to use this kind of rhetoric in American society of the time, that outing yourself as an atheist was career suicide.

But it's not a direct answer. It's avoiding the question, or belittling the quality of the question and by extension the questioner. It sounds wise, but it's no wiser than a three year old repeating 'why?' to each of your answers.

What's your definition of God, then?

This is a normal post A god is a fictitious personification of nature, or of a natural force or forces, created by man to provide debate-stifling answers to questions beyond our understanding of the time.
IMO, Gods are best understood through the Marxist perspective, with the understanding that the creation and promotion of gods/religion affords power to those who control the religious narrative.

So by your definition, God does exist (as a fictitious human construct).

I'd go for a simpler definition and say "God is a supernatural entity" and my position is that it does not exist.

But that is surely the problem that is being highlighted by Ignosticism; there are countless different definitions of "God", and without a commonly agreed definition, debating God's existence is meaningless.

This is a normal post I quite like the ignostic position
In that it acts as a counterpoint to the atheistic position, which presupposes the legitimacy of the god position/question.

Ignosticism says "Theists and atheists haven't even got clear boundaries for their argument. I'm not engaging in discussion about something you lot can't even agree on the definition of."
It says "I'm not going to define my position as opposite to yours, when you can't even define your position."

It's an intellectually tidy way of saying "You don't even know what you're asking me, so fuck off."
