I noticed that he’s standing back a bit, since that sketchy .50 calibre blew up in his face. Lesson learned.
Also, these are sometimes called “stopping rifles”; when a ton of rhino is charging at you you definitely want something that will stop it.
The biggest ones fired balls of lead as heavy as half a pound, and require the shooter to be wearing a pith helmet.

I saw a couple of those in the Royal Armoury museum.
Along with the "Climax" shotgun shell reloading machine and an extremely suggestive, bordering on provocative armoured codpiece.
You've made me wonder if the Futurama writers were being extra clever about duck hunting, since those big, fuck-off punt guns were actually used for just that.

I saw one in a gun shop in Caernarvon in the 80s, thought it was just a prop for the shop window.
