But I'm wondering what the benefit of (or need to) drive the fuel rod is. The hybrid motors I've seen in the past use a cylinder of what's effectively rubber with a hole down the middle, so there are no moving parts needed. I guess it avoids the need to contain the fuel in a chamber but the added weight of the drive mechanism and associated control gear must be considerable.

This is a normal post I guess the main benefit is that you can throttle up/down and even cut off and on at will..?
It seemed to be doing large and fine pulses at wildly varying frequencies, which would make it ideal as an OMS/giant RCS for larger ships, or even as a lander. It's very Kerbal.
