My first reaction was "Why would you do that?" but the end result is rather pleasing.

I agree, and I liked the custom gear profiles, but I found the end result of all that effort and skillful crafting a bit unsatisfying, unlike the nonsense that Tim Hunkin produces, which is mechanically interesting, clever and funny.
