
All standard western notation looks jerky and artificial because it is. Some PDQ Bach scores look prettier than some JS Bach scores.

Or splotching by Pollock may appeal to many, but studying the Asch ‘Carnaval’ variations by Robert Schumann, the numerical references by Alban Berg etc. etc. may reveal subtleties to be highly recommended.
You have to understand the idea and reality of ‘craft’.

I forgot to reference Elgar’s major works - every bar/measure of his compositions are filled with requirements/details - not due to vanity(ies).
