EDIT: AKSHUALLY, the tear ducts are what drain the tears away from the eyes. The tear glands are actually located nearer the outer edge of the eye. (But it's irrelevant, as the tears end up forming at the tear ducts - unless you're a lizard, in which case you typically don't possess tear glands and instead lubricate your eyes with your tongue).
That being said, if you were some sort of extra-terrestrial/lizard masquerading as a human and had studied human biology in an effort to enhance your disguise, you might wrongly assume that the correct way to wipe away tears would be to dab a tissue in the area of the eye closest to the tear gland - just saying...
