A friend told me a story about his grandparents the other day
This must've been in the 1920s/30s. They lived in East London, they heard there was work going in Kingston (in south west London) so they loaded all their possessions on a cart and pushed it to Kingston (must've taken a good 6 hours at least) and when they arrived they went along streets knocking on doors asking if there was anywhere to rent.
(Eeeh, and young people today...)
