How about we imprison a few for 9 months and find out.
If they still haven't succeeded then extend their imprisonment by a bit more.

Ha, not quite, it's more a case of the technicalities genuinely distracting me: I now know how a neuclear reactor works/doesn't.
Plus a blessed sense of remove from a thing I was very aware of when it happened. Putting aside the fact that the area won't be habitable for another TWENTY THOUSEAND YEARS.
