I think it was because they stayed close to the original - no matter how good a cover version is I often find it jars when they add in embellishments. However, Roxy Music's two very different versions of "Angel Eyes" goes way beyond this and I like both of them!

Also... as you'd imagine, Seal has QUITE the backing band
I'm a huge, HUGE fan of Gail Ann Dorsey (Bowie's former bassist). I think hearing Seal sing the tune totally faithfully to the original but with his own voice is stunning.
