But what's that rubbish about traditional pencil sharpeners cutting perpendicular to the wood grain? Does he mean parallel?
I've been using the method with a plane this guy describes, but I've recently started a job where I have access to a belt sander - awesomely sharp pencils in seconds!

If the grain runs along the length
Then normal sharpeners do cut perpendicular (though at a slight angle) to the grain I would have thought
