i wasn't saying JJ Abrams was any good either. I was just stating how overrated Tarantino is.

You bring up his track record. I call every single film he's done post-Dogs is mere droll. JJ Abrams isn't the most original of directors (i.e sequals, revamps in Godzilla, Star Trek) but at least he breathed new life into everything he's done. Tarantino, in comparison, merely takes pop culture references and squeezes every last breath out of them.

Pulp Fiction is just a homage to 70s chic.
Jackie Brown a continuation, and just futhers my point on unoriginality that he took so long to make, directly following Fiction.
Kill Bill in itself was terrible, but the man is so vain that not only is he parodying Western takes on Asian filmmaking that it starts to parody his older work.
And Death Proof was simply boring and misogynistic.

There was tension in Dogs. That's what made it interesting. It didn't feel like a homage, it had closer ties to theatre than anything made in the 60s and 70s. He threw all that away with a constant string overstyled shout-outs. Balls to the man.

In response to the 'breathing new life in to star trek' bit.

New life was breathed in to Batman, the difference is, it didn't shit all over Batmans core audience.

Great comment. And probably why the new Batman films are superior. But i never really watched the Star Trek series so it didn't bother me all that much.
